Billie Geena has always been interested in technology and the digital world. After graduating from college with a degree in computer science, she landed a job as a web developer at a marketing agency. She was introduced to the world of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) there.
At first, Billie was intimidated by the technical aspects of SEO. But she quickly realized that it was all about understanding how search engines work and using that knowledge to help websites rank higher in search results.
With her natural curiosity and problem-solving skills, Billie dove headfirst into SEO. She spent countless hours reading industry blogs, experimenting with different tactics, and analyzing data to see what worked and what didn’t.
As she gained more experience, Billie began to see success in her work. She helped clients improve their search rankings, drive more traffic to their websites, and ultimately increase their revenue. Her expertise in SEO became highly sought after, and she was soon promoted to a leadership role within the agency.
But Billie didn’t stop there. She continued to push herself and stay up-to-date on the latest trends and strategies in SEO. She attended industry conferences, participated in online forums, and even started her blog to share her knowledge with others.
Today, Billie Geena is a respected authority in the world of SEO, with a thriving consulting business and a large following of fans and clients. Her success is a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and a passion for learning.
Social Media Marketer
Joy Akatukunda, a social media marketer from Uganda, started her journey as a part-time influencer during her university days. After two years of freelancing, she started her own agency, Jaunty Digital Media, focusing on content creators, hoping to teach at least 10,000 creators how to monetize, create jobs, and help reduce youth unemployment in Uganda.
She has coached close to 20 people, been part of over 30 social media campaigns, collaborated with Social Champ and Clikup, created online courses on Kool Stories, and had her work featured in four publications. Joy hopes to inspire other young women to keep pushing for their dreams.
A Journalist, Social Media Marketing Strategist, and Trainer
Janet Machuka is a journalist, social media marketing strategist, and trainer. She has at least 6 years of experience in the digital space.
She started her digital-related career in late 2016, and the spontaneity of the digital spaces fascinated her. For her, every day is a learning experience in the digital space.
She started as a social media influencer and later social media manager. Over the years, she has given her all to learn from people, trends, and innovations that happen in digital spaces.
In 2018, she launched a business in the digital marketing agency Sparks Corporates, and over the years, they have trained corporates and individuals on digital marketing. Her team has grown from two people to 12, and every year is a chance to work with more as they grow.
The beauty of the digital and innovation space is that women have greater chances to become whoever they want to be. But to make that work as a woman, you need to be open to learning, collaborating, and building yourself day by day. Continue adding value to yourself. Sometimes you might think no one is watching, but let me assure you that people are, and those who do that are the ones with opportunities.
Another big lesson I have learned is to be ready to offer help to others. People will remember you if you helped them, made them feel heard, and showed them the way. So many young people ask her how they can join the digital marketing space. Her team has never failed to offer weekly conversations on digital marketing on Twitter Spaces through her community, #AfricaTweetChat. Simply build others; they will refer you to opportunities and sing your name wherever they go.
Women have made significant strides in the technology industry in recent years, but there is still a long way to go to achieve true gender equality. Despite facing many challenges, women are breaking through barriers and making a name for themselves in the technology world.
We would like to thank all the amazing women for sharing their success stories!
