TikTok has rallied its American user base to oppose a proposed ban on the app by US Senators. The bill would mandate ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to sell its ownership to the US government or face a complete ban in the country.
Users are alarmed by allegations that TikTok shares user data with the Chinese government, prompting the platform to issue an in-app alert urging users to “Stop the TikTok shutdown.”
This isn’t the first time TikTok has faced controversy. Last year, the platform drew criticism for urging influencers to support the company during discussions about potential restrictions imposed by the White House.
